Where do we meet for tutoring?

How often do you suggest tutoring?

Typically, I meet with my middle school, high school, and college students once or twice a week. Twice a week is ideal for math, as it takes time and practice to master.

What are your teaching credentials?

I have been tutoring students since I was a high school student. I am a teacher at Nashua Community College and the Nashua Adult Education Center.I have a master's degree in chemical engineering from WPI.I got a score of 5 in the following AP classes: AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Physics AB, AP Physics BCMy ACT score was 31.My SAT score in math was 800.

Will you ensure my child gets an A in their class?

While I wish I could say yes, I can promise that every student that I have tutored has been able to successfully understand the subject we are studying to a greater depth. While I cannot guarantee an A or a 5 on an AP test, I will ensure you or your child understands what is being taught in their class(es).

How do I bring up tutoring to my child?

If your usually bright student is struggling in a particular class, I recommend first getting additional support from their teacher or their classmates. Sometimes, this is not enough. This would be a good time to suggest a private tutor for your student. I only work with students who are motivated to learn and get better grades in their class(es)

How do I know if you are a good fit for me/my child?

The biggest factor in success in working with me is the student's motivation. Though the idea of tutoring typically comes from the parent, it is important that the student have a desire to learn the subject as well. Meeting with me at our 30min information session will give you a good sense of my personality and whether you think I will be a good fit for your student.

How long have you been tutoring?

I started tutoring at the age of 16. My very first student was in 7th grade and I helped him raise his grade from a D to a B in two months. The feeling I get from helping students learn to master a subject is truly fulfilling.

What if I/my student has an unpredictable schedule due to clubs/sports/activities?

With three teenage kids involved in clubs and sports, I understand the unpredictable nature of middle school, high school, and college students' schedules. When we first meet, we will set a weekly day/time for our tutoring schedule. If something comes up, please give me 24 hour notice and I will be flexible to the extent my schedule allows.

How does tutoring work?

Our first session together we'll be getting to know eachother, discussing tutoring content, scheduling, and goals. Depending on the class, we will either work off of existing class materials or from publicly available workbooks (e.g. The Princeton Review for AP classes). I will cater the material to make it easy for your student to understand. I will also provide tips, tricks, and strategies to help your student succeed in the class.

When are you available to tutor?

During the school year, I am available on weekday afternoons and evenings. I am not available to tutor on the weekends.

During the summer, my schedule is more flexible and I will do my best to accomodate your scheduling needs.

How long are your tutoring sessions?

The length and frequency of the tutoring sessions vary based on the subject and timing. Sessions typically range from 1-2 hours per session and 1-2 times per week. We can discuss in our 30min intro meeting.

What is your tutoring style?

I believe that every student learns best when they feel safe, supported and are enjoying learning. This is the type of environment I strive to create.
Wherever possible, I try to give context and practical examples around what we are learning and try to make it fun. I tailor my tutoring to the student's needs and frequently check in to make sure they are understanding the material.

What are your expectations from the student?

The student must be willing to learn. I also expect that the student be on time to our sessions and will continue to study outside of our tutoring sessions for maximum success.

What if I cannot afford your rates?

My current rate is $75/hr. If this is not something you can afford, please do not let this stop you from reaching out. I strive to help every student, regardless of family income level. Please let me know on the interest form if you need financial support.

Do you tutor in person or remote/virtual?

I prefer in-person sessions because I find it easier when you have that personal connection. However, it is not possible for me to travel more than 10 miles from my residence in Pepperell. If you live outside of this range, I am happy to conduct virtual sessions with your student!

How do you communicate with the student and/or parent?

If the student is a minor (under the age of 18), I include the parent on all of our communications whether via email or text. Otherwise, I am happy to communicate via either email or text or both! Just let me know what you prefer.

It is so rewarding to see the students' eyes light up when they finally understand the material. Believe it or not, a lot of students get excited in that moment. Watching students' understanding increase in a subject also helps boost their overall confidence levels. I believe that all students can succeed and I would be honored to be a part of their path to success.
